The Women’s Ministry of First Church offers a myriad of ways for women of all ages to grow. Together, we grow deeper in faith, in fellowship with others, in outreach to our community and in our service to the Kingdom of God.
From our Women’s Week of Renewal to our Women and the Word teaching sessions and our ongoing ministry of prayer, women are receiving direction, extending care, and finding their unique place in God’s kingdom.
We take our example from Luke 2:52 (“Jesus increased in wisdom, and stature and in favor with God and man.”). Jesus patterned growth in these areas:
- Wisdom (intellectual growth);
- Stature (physical growth and health);
- Favor with God (spiritual growth);
- and Favor with man (social growth).
We make every effort to ensure that each of our activities has at its center one of these great patterns of growth. Through focusing on these goals, we are making a difference in the lives of women and their families and friends.
Ladies CARE Ministry
At First Church, caring for others is something we feel very strongly about. Jesus said that all men would know that we are His disciples if we have love for each other. Solomon said that a friend loves at all times. Whether one is mourning, recovering, relocating, or rejoicing, we want to fulfill these descriptions of genuine love and care.
Our CARE Ministry – Caring And Responding Effectively – is designed to promote closer relationships, warmly include newcomers into our church family, be aware of and stand ready to help during times of need or crisis, and help with church projects and maintenance. We are organized by groups within a geographic area throughout Nashville and its surrounding communities, each with an assigned leader and several co-leaders.
Our CARE Ministry leaders also take a leadership role within our Women’s Ministry, helping to promote and plan ministry events.
God has greatly blessed our efforts to reach out to others and touch their lives in a real and practical way. We anticipate greater things to come as we endeavor to do His will, while Caring and Responding Effectively.

Women and the Word
Women and the Word is not just a class, it is becoming an important ministry at First Church. We are dedicated to equipping women with biblical principles and practical tools, encouraging and challenging them to pattern their lives not after the world but after the Word of God.
There is one thing that most women have in common - not enough hours in a day. So, our Women and the Word sessions are usually scheduled on a Saturday once per quarter from 10 until 11:15 a.m. We meet in the Activity Center for great fellowship, refreshments, teaching and discussion.
All women are encouraged to attend … and invite your friends!

Tapestry Prayer Ministry
Our Tapestry Prayer Ministry is a group of women that is committed to lifting both Sis. Cheryl Becton and Pastor Ron Becton in daily intercessory prayer. We pray for their family and their partnership together in God’s service and First Church.
Together, we seek to be woven into a tapestry of love in prayer together, as God’s transforming love becomes our eternal common thread. We pray for the convicting power of the Spirit and that it may develop this congregation beyond its present level and expand our capacity for a powerful end time revival.
For more information on our Tapestry Prayer Ministry or to become a prayer partner with our pastor’s wife, please contact Mary Fox via the church office at 615.297.1450 or email@example.com.
Annual Holiday Flea Market (link to event on calendar, with PDF of brochure)
Sponsored by the Women's Ministry of First Church, and through the work of many volunteers and the patronage of thousands of shoppers, our Holiday Flea Market is a blessing to a number of our ministries. The annual event, held the weekend prior to Thanksgiving, benefits our foreign and home missionaries, families in crisis, and our homeless neighbors.
Held each year in February, our Women’s Week of Renewal provides an opportunity to be inspired and give thanks for each other. We take special time to thank our CARE Ministry leaders and help nurture new leaders through training.
The week culminates in the annual Friendship Night. For more than 30 years, our women gather for food and fellowship and a celebration of our relationships with each other. There are skits and an opportunity to dress up according to our theme.
